St Albans & Harpenden Review: St Albans Review - First for 40 Years

Celebrating our 40th anniversary

THE Review this week marks four decades of leading the way in meeting all your news and advertising needs in St Albans, Harpenden and the outlying districts.

The first edition of the newspaper was published on Thursday October 4, 1973, and the brand has gone from strength to strength and now sits proudly at the heart of the community.

That first newspaper was delivered free to 50,000 homes, which was the largest local circulation, and was also available for purchase at newsagents for 3p. And it was the best 3 pence you could ever spend!

An editorial on the front page of the first edition said the Review was “a new dimension in local newspapers, bringing you the stories you will want to read – about your town, your neighbourhood, about people and places you know”.

We are still doing that job, but nowadays thousands more people follow us online, on Facebook and on Twitter.

The Review is, and always has been, where your news and advertising comes first.

Here we celebrate the Review’s first 40 years, and look forward to the next 40.
