The Property:

Impressive and Spacious five bedroom Victorian family home with large garden and double garage, located close to the centre of this popular village.

This impressive and spacious Victorian family home has been tastefully refurbished for contemporary living without losing any of its period charm. All the rooms have high ceilings with decorative coving and ceiling roses and many have original fireplaces. The kitchen and breakfast room has solid wood bespoke cabinets, a large dining island, granite work surfaces and a tiled slate floor with underfloor heating and overlooks the main garden terrace. The elegant dining room still has the original floorboards and a working fireplace, while the drawing room and family room have French doors onto a raised terrace with views over the garden.

There are five first-floor bedrooms, one with an en suite, plus a large, luxurious family bathroom with stand-alone bath, separate shower and twin sinks. There's also a beautifully tiled shower room on the ground floor. The large basement is currently being used as a sixth bedroom but could also make a comfortable home office and has a separate external access.

Attached to the double garage is a handy storeroom/workshop ideal for bikes and garden equipment, while above the garage is a spacious room that would be ideal as a games room or home office. It would also be possible to convert the loft, creating two more bedrooms and a bathroom, subject to planning approval.

A rose arch leads from the main outdoor dining terrace to the secluded garden, bordered by high hedges and a brick and flint boundary wall. The plot measures approximately 0.22 of an acre.

Owners Story

We bought this house 10 years ago when we moved out of Harpenden because with 4 children we needed more space! It's quite a large house but it has always felt very homely and comfortable. Since being here we have updated every room in the house and 5 years ago we put in a De Mornay Boyes bespoke kitchen with an island, underfloor heating, Sonos speakers in the ceiling and black slate floor tiles. We can squeeze up to 10 people around the Island which is great for casual dining with good friends or family Sunday roasts.

One of our favourite features is the garden which can almost be divided in three: A large patio to the rear where we can dine with our friends without fear of footballs flying across the table, a raised pretty terrace to the side which is a great sun trap and currently home to our hot tub and then the large lawn area which currently hosts a climbing frame, cricket net, football goals and is the site of many family games of rounders and cricket. It's been a very happy family home, often filled with a host of children. With each child having a large bedroom , sleepovers of 10 or more have been a regular occurrence and as the children have become teenagers it's also lent itself very well to many parties.

We've really enjoyed living in Redbourn. We are just a few minutes walk from the High Street and Common where both boys have played hours of cricket. Harpenden Rugby Club is a couple of minutes drive away and is a great friendly community and with the Recreation Centre literally up the road for both football and gymnastics, all our sporting boxes have been ticked! With a relocation to Somerset ahead for us it's now time for this beautiful old house to welcome in a new family.

On the edge of the village of Redbourn, Scout Farm House is ideally positioned for involvement in village life but with the advantage of being just five miles from the historic city of St Albans, with its shops, restaurants and bustling market. The house is within the catchment area for outstanding secondary schools in the popular town of Harpenden, just three miles away, which offers a fast train service to London. Coach services to some of the region's finest independent schools pick up students from Redbourn. The village has a strong community with cosy pubs and an unusually large common with a thriving cricket club.
