INSPIRED by artefacts at the Museum of St Albans, Spanish artist Arabel Rosillo de Blas has created an inventive collection of work which goes on show in the city this week.

Exhibited at the Hatfield Road-based museum, the installation - entitled Freehold - considers St Albans as a city, focusing on its post-war housing developments including the Marshalswick and Jersey Farm estates.

Arabel, who won the University of Hertfordshire's prestigious Eastern Approaches Exhibition award in 2014, has developed her artwork through exploring topics such as the property ladder, town planning and infrastructure.

The exhibition includes pieces drawn in human hair, a floor of carved soap tiles cast from St Albans Cathedral's original tiles, life-size photographs and furniture sculptures.

The Central St Martin's College of Art and Design student, who is based in Bedford, first studied for her degree in art at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, graduating in 1998.

She won a place exhibiting her delicate dolls house-inspired sculpture at the Eastern Approaches Exhibition - which is run in partnership with St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust and local sponsors - and was later invited to show her work at the Museum of St Albans.
