Campaigners against the proposed incinerator at New Barnfield are calling on all those opposed to the incinerator plan to assemble at 10.15 a.m. on Thursday June 6th outside the Fielder Centre, Hatfield Avenue, Hatfield Business Park, AL10 9TP. Protesters are asked to bring banners and placards. Those who wish can then go in to the Pre-Public-Inquiry Meeting, which starts at 11 a.m. There will be room for 100 in the public gallery, and there will be an over-flow room.

Campaigners are urging residents and councillors to attend the protest and meeting, to show the continuing strength of opposition to the incinerator proposal.

The Hatfield Business Park is off the Airfield pub roundabout on the A1000, Comet Way.

The Pre-Public-Inquiry Meeting will be led by an independent Planning Inspector. The Inspector will explain the procedure for the Public Inquiry, which will start on September 10th.

Parties who will be putting the case against an incinerator at the Public Inquiry are New Barnfield Action Fund, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Gascoyne Cecil Estates (Hatfield House), and English Heritage. They will be opposing Herts County Council and Veolia Environmental Services.

New Barnfield Action Fund is an umbrella organisation, including Hatfield against Incineration, North Mymms Green Belt Society, Hatfield Town Council, North Mymms Parish Council and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

Paul Zukowskyj, Secretary of New Barnfield Action Fund, and newly-elected County Councillor for Hatfield South, said, “The June 6th meeting is the start of the Public Inquiry process, and we have strong hopes that the independent Inspector will refuse Planning Permission for the incinerator. We want as many people as possible to come along to the Fielder Centre, to show how strongly they oppose the damaging and unnecessary incinerator plan”.
