Police are appealing for people to come forward if they have been approached by a man selling and installing PROSAFE security alarms.

This comes after a man gained entry to the home of a woman in her 90s on September 4 and sold her five alarms at a highly inflated price of between £400 and £500. The alarms are worth £4.99.

The man fitted one alarm and left the woman's home.

Detective Constable Jason Tinsey from Operation Manhunt said: "We believe that other people in Hertfordshire may have fallen for this scam since the beginning of September and we would be keen to speak to anyone else who has purchased a PROSAFE alarm or had one fitted recently."

A 50-year-old man from Romford has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and has been released on police bail.

Residents who have been approached in this way should contact Operation Manhunt via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number F2/13/1177. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
