LOSTALONE played the Oxford 02 Academy at the weekend with a new album released today. Freetime interviewed lead vocalist and guitarist Steven Battelle.

Your new album Shape of Screams is released on April 7. Are you nervous or excited?

I think anxious is the description that fits our mood best. We've made a record we're proud of and thats the easy part, now the world turns and all the little pieces have to fall into place to hopefully reward it the success it deserves to achieve. I think being on tour is going to help a lot! Seeing the people who like our music everyday is sure to make us feel happy.

You have supported some major bands including The Darkness, My Chemical Romance and Paramore - who was your favourite band to tour with?

I think the MCR tour was probably the tour where we found ourself as a live band, the camaraderie between bands and crew on that tour was amazing as well. To single one out as favourite would be impossible though as I've had a great time with all the bands we've toured with.

Who would you love to tour with in the future?

I guess right now touring with other bands isn't really something of an ambition, its to get us to a place where we are always the headliner. I'd enjoy to play with Young Guns who we've never toured with but know also Biffy, Twin Atlantic or Arcane Roots would be good matches for our band.

How would you describe your music?

Like a bunch of whales collectively swallowed ALL the music and then fired it out their blow wholes in harmony.

How was it working with Dan Weller, who has also produced albums for greats such as Enter Shikari and Young Guns?

Dan was like having a third ear on my head and an extra half of a brain, he understood exactly what it was we were trying to create and helped us realise it. We enjoy the exact same sense of humour and this is the most important aspect of letting someone into your world.

The main thing he achived was getting exactly how I hear the songs recorded, this is no easy task and I'm so happy with his work.

How has your life changed since being in Lostalone?

The answer to this is it hasn't, I am LostAlone- it's what I am not just what I do and I can't imagine what it would be like without it as an outlet. I don't think I can remember life before it, I'm sure I had one.
