Girls and leaders from across Hertfordshire are taking part in an extra-special celebration camp to mark the 100th birthday of guiding with a host of girl-only adventures and activities.
The week-long camp sees Guides aged 10-14 and senior members aged 14-26 take part in a variety of activities including rock climbing, abseiling, geocaching and zorbing as well as trips out to the Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre, Frogmore Paper Mill and an adventurous canoe safari.
The Mayor of St Albans City and District visited the camp on Sunday together with a number of local dignitaries, including Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, the Deputy Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council and several mayors from across the county. The visitors came to participate in the main birthday festivities which included a magic show and afternoon tea.
St Albans mayor councilor Geoff Harrison said: "One hundred years of Girlguiding in Hertfordshire is an achievement to be proud of and well worth celebrating.
"I was very impressed to see more than 600 Guides taking part in the birthday camp with its many exciting activities. I really enjoyed the exhibition about guiding through the last century, with its examples of Guide uniforms. I wish all the Guides and their leaders every success in the future."
The Hertfordshire Guides are joined by several international visitors at camp, including a group of 15 from New Jersey, USA.
