What is right? There are usually two sides to every argument, and it’s often a question of balance. However, if we were all just the silent “couldn’t really care ,“ not my problem” majority, wrong would slide to the surface like congealed fat in an empty casserole.

At one time our local parish mags and local papers were mainly platforms for the excellent but minor triumphs of the locality - the charity funds, the 100th birthday, the school achievements etc But have you noticed the difference in material now? In our papers there are several urgent issues to raise my ire!

Despite overwhelming response against cutting evening and Sunday buses, there’s another on line call for us the public to have our say – I note without the bus numbers, and so much more obscure.

Then there’s the thousands of houses proposed in several different schemes at the east of St.Albans where the Green Belt appears to be ignored.

Then there’s the plaintive cry that St.Albans DOES need an A and E.. And also the wailing over the hike in the train fares and the worsening service!

Having a faith does not mean allowing schemes to go forward which trample on what is good in our locality. It means, under God, crying out for justice, crying out for the underdog, crying out that care and love are more important than the creation of wealth.

Also, of course, when our cause is lost, it means a willingness to accept the conclusion graciously and see what can be turned to good within it.
