People living in Hertfordshire will soon be able to benefit from a new Mediation Centre being run by the Law School at the University of Hertfordshire.

The mediation service is available to Hertfordshire residents and will help people deal with disputes which can be resolved outside of the courts - for example, disputes to do with parking, boundaries, noise, landlord and tenant matters, neighbour disputes or disagreements between inhabitants such as flat or house mates.

The aim of the service is to provide trained mediators to manage disputes and prevent matters escalating and ending up in expensive and time-consuming court battles.

The Mediation Centre will charge a small fee to cover administrative costs and the agreement reached in mediation sessions will be a legally binding contract between the involved parties.

Neal Geach, Associate Dean for the School of Law at the University said: “We are delighted to offer this service to the local community.

"It has the potential to improve relationships for people throughout the county and reduce the stress and financial burden for people who find themselves involved in disputes.

"Mediation is proven to be a highly effective approach to resolving disputes with over 85% of mediations reaching a successful outcome.”
