When you hop out of bed in the morning and stub your toe, whose fault is it? The dog? Your partner? Then in the evening, when you’re exhausted and reaching for a bar of chocolate or glass of wine that you know you’ll regret – who do you pin that one on? Your demanding child or your stressful work situation?

Life is undeniably high pressure in St Albans. We are aspirational for ourselves and our children, aiming high in most areas of our lives. But when breakdown or disappointment occurs, do we have the skills to deal with it?

At The Living Room, a local charity working with addicted people, we see clients who have faced the most unfortunate circumstances and encountered difficult people along the way. Through group therapy, we support them towards a goal of abstinence and help break the cycle of addiction. Importantly, one of the first steps to successful recovery is to stop blaming others.

Yes, other people may be responsible for what has happened to you. Despite that, in order to change and experience real freedom, we must all learn to forgive and move on. Filling the mind with blame and bitterness can only enable the past to continue its damage and destroy the future. It has been said that pain knocks us down, but forgiveness picks us back up and puts us on the road to recovery.

Are you ready to stop blaming, and take the action needed to live a free and fulfilling life?
