Giant hogweed has been found growing in Harpenden.
The plant, which can leave burns and blisters on people who come into contact with it, was reported to St Albans District Council as growing in Crabtree Fields.
But Richard Shwe, head of community services, said the council had taken action and the growth had died back.
He said: “We are aware of only one location on council-owned land where giant hogweed plants have been growing.
“A small number of the plants have been found in one area of the woods at Crabtree Fields, Harpenden, and, although we have no statutory obligation to do so, we have taken action to treat them.
"This year’s growth has died back and we will treat any regrowth that occurs in the spring.”
