“Mum, there’s something rustling in the utility!” said my daughter! It could mean only one thing, a mouse! So out came the rubber gloves, and the bleach, and next day it I saw it, long and grey scurrying round the recycling bin.

The story didn’t end there. I saw a brown one streak across the kitchen, and one day I was joined by a little black one watching tele with me ! I began to feel rather uneasy after dark..

I had always cleaned my house adequately but after the smiley young lady from Pest Control had laid down bait, I spring cleaned in a big way and actually found lots of tiny holes under the pipes, under the stairs beyond the coats etc. I even bravely edged out my frig and found a dead mouse with its swarm of flies! Ugh!

I then thought of the little holes in our memories –the no-go areas just like the holes under the pipes! We don’t want to think of that hurt; or the long held grudge, or how we were let down so badly.

Maybe we clean our thoughts adequately by avoiding the hurting bits. We think of ourselves as reasonably good people, but we’ve never asked God to spring clean us, to allow Jesus to flush away every bad thought, never to return. I believe He can do that. Why not try it?
