THE CHAIRMAN of Wychavon District Council has praised local volunteers who travelled to flood-stricken Yorkshire and Cumbria to help with rescue efforts this Christmas.
In a New Year message posted on her blog, Cllr Val Wood highlighted the efforts of the Pershore-based South Worcestershire Lifeguard Club, who journeyed to York and Selby this week to help with the flooding caused by Storm Frank.
Writing on her blog, Cllr Wood said: "At the last meeting of the Council for 2015 on 16 December, I presented Ade Mayhew chairman of the South Worcestershire Lifeguard Club with a certificate of appreciation for their voluntary efforts in assisting with the floods in Cumbria.
"Since then they have again been deployed in York and Selby spending Boxing Day travelling north to offer help and being the only volunteer group left on Tuesday 29 December and becoming part of the task force awaiting Storm Frank which is with us now."
On Wednesday morning a fire crew from Droitwich were deployed to Strensall in North Yorkshire to offer assistance to emergency services dealing with the flood rescue effort.
Although Storm Frank's impact was relatively minor across the Wychavon district, in the north of England it resulted in further flooding, blighting homes and causing major disruption.
