A window cleaner looking to run 400 marathons in 365 days stopped off in St Albans at the weekend.

Mark Vaz, originally from Staffordshire, has taken on the challenge for Adoption UK.

As of Friday last week, he equalled the official Guinness World Record for the greatest number of marathons run in a year.

On Sunday, just after 8am, he ran 10 miles from Westminster Lodge to Bedmond and back.

At 10am he ran a further 16.2 miles towards Woodhall Farm and then along the Nickey Line to Harpenden before returning to Westminster Lodge by about 1pm.

His run on Sunday was his 241st consecutive marathon in 219 days.

Mr Vaz also met with children from St Albans Athletics Club at Westminster Lodge where he answered questions and ran 800 metres as part of their warm up.

He said: “It was great to meet and be supported by so many nice people and youngsters in St Albans who clearly share my enjoyment of running.

“The mud at mile 20 was exceptional and I even managed a sprint finish along Redbourn Road.”
