A garage owner who has been based in Croxley Green for more than ten years says he has lost money as a result of a "major overdevelopment".

Clancy Developments bought the site in Watford Road from Tesco last year and demolished the building on the site.

But one business owner says the demolition work affected his business, with six foot fences being put up around the site, which is in front of his garage.

Owner of Darryl Motors, Larry Mydat, said this led to people thinking the Volvo specialist has closed down.

Seven flats will be built on top of a a shop which is expected to be a Co-op store.

He said: “I have got three guys here and they keep looking at me and wondering how long they will be here for.

“I have lost business. There is no doubt about it. People think we have closed. People drove past and saw everything being pulled down and called up asking if we had closed down.

“It is a massive overdevelopment.”

He believes the developers should have given him compensation for the loss of trading and moved them off the site during the redevelopment works.

It is not the first time Mr Mydat has feared for his business’s future.

He thought he could have been forced to close when Shell wanted to redevelop their petrol forecourt and build a bigger shop, leaving no space for him to operate over the back of the site.

But the oil giant withdrew the plans.
