A coffee shop opened by two teenagers which has been open just a couple of months topped the Watford Observer’s poll for ‘best coffee shop’ in the town.

The Coffee Bros in St Albans Road were runaway winners of our online poll with 857 votes - 27 per cent of the total.

Runners up were Perk in Carpenders Park, which polled 457 votes - 14 per cent, La Bottega in Market Street, which received 13 per cent of the total with 423 votes, and Eats and Treats in St Albans Road, with 387 votes and 12 per cent of the total.

Many readers also praised Viento in St Albans Road, which roasts its own coffee, in the comments section online.

The winning north Watford coffee shop was only opened at the end of March by Reece Holden, 18 and David Reynolds, 17, who both live in Salisbury Road.

The duo saved the money to start their own café by working at BHS coffee shop in intu Watford.

Mr Reynolds said: “This is fantastic news, we did see the online poll and though it would be good if we won, but there were so many good independent coffee shops in the competition we had no idea we’d come out on top.”

Mr Holden added: “St Albans Road is a very up and coming area with a variety of shops on offer. A lot of people have been say this is something that was needed in this area of town.

“People who live round here don’t have to go all the way to town for anymore for what we offer and we’ve noticed a lot of mums coming in as we’ve got a lot of room for them to park their buggies.”

The pair are planning to hold a PCSO open surgery this month, as well as an Avon night.

Mr Reynolds said: “We’re also trying to organise a book club for children to come along too – we’re trying to have something for everyone.”
