More than 7,000 ran through Verulamium Park on Sunday as the St Albans Half Marathon returned for the 25th time.
Keen participants had the chance to take part in a half marathon, a walking half marathon, wheelchair half marathon, 5k race and a 1.5mile event.
More than 7,000 people registered for the events and Sunday’s weather failed to dampen people's spirits.
The event was first held in 1981.
One runner, Liz Ferguson, posted on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone organising today and the marshals.
“It was my first half marathon today and it was great although the hills were tough. I’m so pleased I finished it without walking.
“The marshals were brilliant at keeping up morale.”
The organisers of the festival said: “Thank you to everyone that took on the routes today.
“You are all stars and should be very proud of yourselves.”
Chris Perry, who moved to Gloucestershire ten years ago, came to St Albans to compete in the event.
He said: “This was fantastically well organised and a top event. Probably the toughest I’ve run, but still ran my third quickest time so I’m delighted.
“Travelled from Gloucestershire, so a long day, but memorable all the same.”
