Watford FC fans heading to Swansea this weekend are being warned to give themselves plenty of time for travelling due to the planned closure of Swansea train station.

It means supporters face disrupted journeys to get to the Swansea match, which kicks off at 3pm.

Fans heading to Wales by train on Saturday will have to get off at Port Talbot station and then get a rail replacement bus to Swansea, which will take around 45 minutes.

Although overall travel time should not be affected, it means fans cannot travel directly to Swansea from London.

Supporters who are travelling by train, but not from London, will also be advised to alight at Port Talbot.

No journeys will be affected if you are travelling on Friday.

An Arriva Trains Wales spokeswoman, who was not named, told us fans are advised to head to Swansea earlier than planned but on a valid train.

“We advise to take the earliest service possible.

“Fans should change at Port Talbot where they can get a bus replacement service immediately which will take them to Swansea train station.”

Swansea station will be shut for the entire weekend meaning the Hornets following will face similar issues going back home.

The spokeswoman added: "After the game, fans should head quickly back to Swansea station where a bus will be waiting to take them to Port Talbot where they will be able to catch a connecting train."

The South Wales region is currently undergoing major improvements across the rail network.

According to Watford FC’s official site, 2,000 fans are expected to travel to the Liberty Stadium this weekend, where they will be looking to make it consecutive away victories after a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough last time out.
