A former health minister who is known for his mental health campaigning will speak at a public event in St Albans.
Norman Lamb was the minister for care and support in the 2010-15 coalition government and remains the Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk.
A known advocate for progressive mental health police, inspired by his son Archie’s problems with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Mr Lamb will speak at Marlborough Road Methodist church on Monday, January 23.
The event comes ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week and will also see local campaigner Kat Cormack, who went to Beaumont School, speak to the audience.
Mr Lamb will be speaking about recently announced mental health initiatives and the continuing failure to deliver on promised investment in children's mental health.
As minister for care and support he launched Positive and Safe, a two-year programme to end the deliberate use of face-down restraint in all health and care settings.
Lib Dem Cllr Anthony Rowlands will also be talking about his work with the Local Authority Mental Health Challenge, a scheme coordinated by seven major mental health charities and led by the Centre for Mental Health.
The event, starting at 7pm, is being by St Albans Liberal Democrats but representatives of all major parties have been invited to attend as well as representatives from a number of local mental health charities.
