Sutton comedian Tim Vine helped raise £16,000 to improve educational opportunities for African children.
The Cheam-born comic gave a live performance filled with quick-witted puns at Trinity School, Croydon, to raise funds for a new secondary school in Chipwepwete, Malawi.
Money raised at the event was donated to charity Hope4Malawi, which aims to provide a better education for children living in the country and improve their standard of living.
The organisation also focuses on developing a connection between British schoolchildren and pupils in the south-east African country.
Trinity School has supported the charity for several years and has committed to provide daily meals for every children at Chipwepwete Primary School.
Hope4Malawi co-founder, Sara Goodman, said “It was an incredible evening. We want to thank Trinity school and staff for hosting such a great event.
“We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the school and to parents and pupils giving children in Malawi hope of a better future by giving both time and resources.“
Trinity Headteacher, Alasdair Kennedy, added: “We are committed to playing an active role in our wider community and enabling our pupils to help others. We are delighted to have been able to host such a wonderful evening for a cause so close to our hearts.”
