The MP for Hitchin and Harpenden has accused some members of the local Labour Party of trying to harass his family.
Conservative Bim Afolami, who was elected to the seat at this year’s general election, said on Twitter that attempts had been made to find out where his two young sons went to school, although they are still too young to attend.
He said he had contacted police but not made a formal complaint.
Tweeting in response to Mr Afolami’s claims, John Hayes – Labour’s candidate in June’s election – said: “We take such allegations very seriously and totally and utterly condemn anyone guilty of harassment.
“They have no place in any political party.”
The Labour Party said it would investigate any evidence put forward, should a complaint be made.
Mr Afolami said he was “happy to draw a line under the issue”.
