A thousand people attended Bricket Wood's largest ever Remembrance Day parade on Sunday.

The afternoon started with a parade of standards along Park Street by more than 400 young people from local cadet forces, guiding and scouting units, led by Harpenden Pipe Band.

The Rev Kylie Hodgins of St Luke’s Church, Bricket Wood, led the service to pay tribute to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars and more recent conflicts.

Following the two minute silence, more than thirty wreaths were laid at the war memorial while a lone piper played Flowers of the Forest. A special wreath dedicated to the memory of those who died at Passchendaele in 1917 was laid by Cllr Ian Getley.

Parish Council Chairman Cllr Dorothy Kerry took the salute from the parade on the march back along Park Street at the end of the service. The parade was again led by Harpenden Pipe Band, playing Black Bear.

Cllr Kerry said: “This has been our largest Remembrance service to date and the local youth groups and cadet forces have paraded more standards than ever before. It is wonderful to see the community come together to pay tribute to those who have given their lives not only in the two world wars but in the more recent conflicts as well.

“Members of the public, veterans and families of those lost joined us to pay our respects and this year a special wreath was laid dedicated to those who lost their lives at Passchendaele in 1917.”
