Someone had a lucky escape after a tree fell on their car.

The tree fell onto the bonnet of a vehicle, which was parked in Ridge Street, Watford, on January 4 at around quarter to five in the afternoon.

Asif Khan, a Leggats councillor at Watford Borough Council, was on his usual walk around North Watford when he came across the fallen tree.

“I’d never seen anything like this before.

"It’s lucky that no one was in the car otherwise they could have been seriously hurt.

“This shows we need to be careful about our urban trees.”

Ridge Street was closed whilst the tree was recovered.

Kevin Carrol, Ringway divisional manager, working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, said: “The tree which damaged a car and blocked Ridge Street was removed that same evening. The crew were on site at 19:30pm and worked until 21:45pm to complete the clearance.

“We will follow up to patch the hole left in the footway at a later date but this is currently cordoned off for the public’s safety.”
