The Liberal Democrats were victorious in the local elections in Watford as they held onto the overall majority.

Party members rejoiced as the results were read out at Watford Leisure Centre on Friday as they claimed nine ward seats.

Labour won three seats but lost the Callowland seat to Liberal Democrat Ian Stotesbury.

The overall turn out yesterday for Watford was 39.28 per cent.

Watford Borough Council trialled a voter ID pilot scheme during this year’s elections.

This resulted in 192 people turned up to the polling stations around Watford without their ID.

Up to 128 of those people then went home to get their ID and came back later on.

As a result, 64 people were not able to vote as a result of the pilot scheme here, which works out at 0.23 per cent of those who voted.
