Join in the Big Fun

For many parents the long summer holiday needs creative thinking to keep the kids amused. Some parents also struggle with finding the funds to keep them fed.

Christ Church, on the New Greens Estate in St Albans, seeks to help by laying on The Big Lunch.

This is a weekly event taking place on the first four Wednesdays in August starting on 1st. It is organised by Becki Chafe, the church’s Children and Families Pastor, but staffed by a large team of church volunteers.

The Big Lunch is a completely free event for anyone of any age, but especially for families, and runs from 12 noon until 2 pm.

The church supplies a free meal to all who come plus craft activities, toddlers’ toys, safe play, a bouncy castle, games and so much more.

The Big Lunch is Big Fun for everyone – all ages.

If past years are anything to go by, this will be another highly popular community event. The only condition is that children are accompanied by an adult.

During term-time the church also runs The Shack, a community club for school years 4 to 8.

This takes place on Fridays from 7.30 to 9.00 pm. and offers a range of crafts and activities under safe supervision.

All over the country churches are running events for their local communities.

These are just two examples of Christians seeking to be generous in meeting local and practical needs.
