Watford Under-18s played out a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday to secure their first point of the new campaign on Saturdaty.

The Golden Boys moved into the lead in the first half when Dom Hutchinson got away from his marker and headed in George Langston’s cross.

They were to be denied all three points in the second half, though, after Charles Horgan found the back of the net for Wednesday.

While missing out on a maiden win of the season came as a disappointment, Under-18 coach Carl Martin still took plenty of positives from the manner of Watford’s display.

He told the Watford website: “With what we’re trying to do this season in terms of trying to push players up and really take them out of their comfort zone, I thought the boys gave a really good account of themselves.

“Sheffield Wednesday are always difficult opposition. They’re always a physical team and they always try to play to win, but especially in the first half I thought the boys started the game excellently.

“They just ran out of legs in the end and conceded the goal, but I thought overall we were all pretty impressed with the players and their application.”

Watford’s Under-18s continue their season with a trip to Nottingham Forest this weekend.
