OXHEY Jets produced an inspired comeback to earn a 3-2 South Midlands Premier Division win over Wembley on Tuesday night.

A failure to get going at all in the first 45 minutes left Jets facing a mountain to climb at the interval as Wembley eased into a 2-0 lead which could have been greater.

The abject showing drew a thunderous reaction from boss Tim O’Sullivan during the interval as he made it perfectly clear the performance was not acceptable.

His intervention had the desired impact and Jets were back in contention just before the hour as they reduced the deficit to one goal.

It took a special strike to break the Wembley resistance as Nick Kerley took aim from distance and left the home keeper helpless.

Parity was restored soon after when Ollie Salami’s accurate cross found Andy Brennan, who got across his marker to glance a header home.

Both sides then exchanged chances, but it would be Jets who had the final say on proceedings when the Wembley keeper spilled a shot and Ryan O’Sullivan pounced to score from close range.

The win made it double delight for O’Sullivan’s men as they built on a 2-0 triumph over Stotfold on Saturday.

They owed the success to a brace from Luke Jones as he produced a pair of well-taken finishes to down Stotfold.

It took Jones eight minutes to get his first as he struck from distance and he put the finishing touch on the victory in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

The pair of wins means Jets have taken nine points from their first four games of the season and sit third in the table.

Division Two newcomers Bovingdon remain unbeaten in the league after playing out a 1-1 draw at Pitstone & Ivinghoe.

Neither side really managed to make an impact in the first half and it took until the second period for the home side to go ahead.

Bovingdon battled hard to get back into the game and earned a penalty on 75 minutes when Stephen Dodds was fouled in the box.

Captain Matthew Standen stepped up and did the rest from 12 yards to level the scores.

Bovingdon thought they had the winner late on when they got the ball in the net but it was disallowed.

Tring Athletic provided plenty of drama as they came out on the right side of a seven-goal Premier Division clash against Crawley Green.

Luke Dunstan’s brace proved pivotal in the win which also saw Kieran Turner net from the penalty spot and Ashton Campbell get on the scoresheet.

With Crawley winning their first three games and scoring 12 goals in the process the match was always likely to be a testing one for Tring.

It was Athletic who started the brighter, however, and they were ahead in the 18th minute when Chris Vardy played in Campbell for his third goal this term.

The lead didn’t last long and Crawley were level when Mark Bunker’s cross somehow found its way into the Tring net.

Green took the lead in stunning fashion just before the break when Brandon Carney scored an overhead kick and it was 3-1 when Oluwanimilo Ajigbolamu netted.

Tring looked dead and buried, but they refused to take defeat lying down and were back within one three minutes later when Turner calmly scored from the spot after Campbell was fouled.

With time running out, Dunstan took centre-stage as he first scored a bicycle kick from a corner kick then bundled home a dramatic winner at the death.

It was a less successful weekend for Leverstock Green as they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Colney Heath.

Jonathan Lacey’s goals in the 24th minute and a 64th-minute penalty had put Green in control, but they were to throw away their position of dominance in a frantic two-minute spell which saw Heath net twice in the closing stages through Spencer Mardle-Clarke and Harvey Scott.
