Delighted teenagers put worries about the new GCSE grading system when they opened their results.

Pupils at St Albans Girls School were delighted to enjoy the fruits of their labours when they saw their grades on Thursday.

Sophia Laycock said that she had no idea that she had done this well.

Teodora Zvonar gained a full suite of Grade 9s and is very excited to be studying Biology, History and Psychology at STAGS.

Rose MacIntyre will be studying physics, maths and politics. She said: "Today feels unreal even with my results."

Katie Knolden was ‘speechless’ and now looking forward to studying biology, chemistry and maths, with Daisy White and Connie Hinds "shocked but excited" for sixth form and "delighted" that all their hard work had paid off.

All students were looking forward to the next stage in their education, some saying that it was good to pick up a pen again.

Head teacher Margaret Chapman said: "Congratulations to all - we are so proud of the outstanding achievements of all of our students today.

"These results are only possible because of the unfailing encouragement of parents and staff and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported our girls so admirably in achieving their superb goals.

"We wish all of our students enormous congratulations on their superb achievements and every success in the next stage of their lives."
