Christian Kabasele says Watford’s players will look to maintain their strong character even if results go against them.

Goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart saw the Hornets come from behind after Abdoulaye Doucoure’s own goal had given Spurs a second half lead.

The character Watford showed to turn the game in their favour came as little surprise to Kabasele, who highlighted Javi Gracia’s influence on the outcome after the match.

“Obviously we defended quite well – but not only the back four – the whole team did well,” the centre-back told the club website.

“We need to keep this spirit, because – the manager said this as well in the pre-match talk – we can beat anyone, but we can also lose against anybody. We need to keep going.”

Sunday’s win was secured by a powerful Cathcart header which found the top corner of Michel Vorm’s net in the 76th minute.

The Northern Irishman has formed a strong partnership alongside Kabasele at the heart of Watford’s defence this season.

He looks to be back to his best after an injury-ravaged 2017/18 campaign and Kabasele was pleased to see Cathcart on the scoresheet against Spurs.

“I’m very happy for Craig because since I came here he has had such a lot of injury problems. He helped me a lot on the pitch, because he has more experience than me,” he said.

“I am happy for him but I have to say that on his goal he was supposed to block my man, and finally he scores a goal. But I am happy for him because he deserves it.”
