A bus service is to be re-routed to serve a housing estate that had been cut off.

Uno has confirmed that its 635 service will now run through the Meriden estate including North Watford and Garston railway stations and will no longer terminate in the Holywell Estate.

Instead, the updated 635, which will begin on October 1, will end near Watford General Hospital in Thomas Sawyer Way.

It is a second boost for people living in the Meriden who were left with no service at all after Arriva took the decision to axe the 324.

Campaigners and councillors took it upon themselves to fight for a news service, and last week they were successful when a series of services were brought in for a period of six months while a permanent solution is found.

The new W1 and W2 will run during the week, with the W1 operating at peak times to cover journeys to and from work or school. The new W3 and W4 will serve the areas every half hour on a Saturday.

Hertfordshire County Council said is chose to step in after Arriva withdrew the 324 as it was “no longer financially viable”.

Cllr Derrick Ashley, cabinet member for transport, at the county council said: : “We know that our residents value public transport, so I am really pleased that we have been able to fund this new service and maintain this important link into the centre of Watford. I hope it will attract more and more passengers, including drivers, who make the decision to leave their cars at home.

“I am pleased to hear Watford Borough Council are committed to assisting with funding this service and I hope we can also secure contributions from elsewhere to try and ensure the news services continue.”
