Voters have overwhelmingly chosen a mobile polling station as their preferred choice following a consultation.

People living in Oxhey Hall & Hayling ward for polling district DCAA were asked where they would like to vote in future elections after concerns were raised about the polling station used in May.

Voters were given three options; the scout hut which was used in May, the mobile polling station in the Oxhey Pavilion car park, and the Oxhey Hall Community Centre.

Out of a possible 838 voters, just over 40 per cent turned out with 233 choosing the mobile station as their preferred choice.

Sixty-seven people voted for the community centre and 40 people for the scout hut.

The scout hut proved an unpopular choice for some back in May due to the “lack of disabled access”.

Three Rivers Labour leader Cllr Steve Cox backed calls for the mobile polling station to be reinstated.

He said: “The figures speak for themselves with more than 80pc in favour of retaining the second polling station and 273 - the vast majority of the 341 respondents - stating their preference was for the cabin to be reinstated. I see the outcome as what it clearly is; a compelling and conclusive verdict from the residents.”

A decision on where the polling station will be will be made by the Electoral Commission in December.
