The roof of a building which is being extended collapsed overnight.
Watford Borough Council is aware of the structural collapse which happened at a property in Nascot Street in Watford. The building backs onto Johns Stores in Langley Road.
A planning officer and a building control officer from the council attended the site this morning.
Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We will not tolerate building work that doesn’t meet the requirements of the planning and building regulations set out and public safety is our priority in dealing with such matters. We have spoken to the owner of the residential development about his responsibilities and what needs to be done to make the building safe.
“The builder’s structural engineer has visited the site today to provide some advice and a council building control officer has attended again this afternoon. The priority is to make sure the building is secure and we are working with the builder to find the safest way to take the building down. We don’t want to take any chances of this happening again.”
The pavement directly outside the building has been shut to pedestrians for safety reasons.
