A poll suggests that 92 per cent of Harpenden people think Brexit is going badly
Almost 1,000 people in Harpenden, St Albans and four other locations were asked several Brexit-related questions by the pro-Remain group Harpenden For Europe.
It revealed that almost three quarters of residents want a ‘People’s Vote’ in which voters will be able to decide whether to accept the final Brexit deal.
Harpenden For Europe found that less than three per cent of those surveyed believe that Brexit is going well.
They added that over 86 per cent of respondents felt Brexit would be bad for jobs and the NHS.
Group chairman Richard Scott said: “These polls show once again that a huge majority of local residents want a People’s Vote on the Brexit deal.
“We’re talking to people from every walk of life and political persuasion, and the truth is people are worried.”
In 2016, 60.2 percent of the Hitchin and Harpenden constituency voted to remain in the European Union.
Despite this, local MP Bim Afolami, elected in 2017, has consistently voted against further EU integration, including a vote against letting Parliament approve the final terms of the Brexit deal.
He has previously written for The Times: “Brexit can be a catalyst for signalling that Britain is open for business.”
