A fire ripped through a derelict building last night.

Fire crews were called to a home in Watford Road, Radlett, at around 9pm and smoke could be seen billowing into the air.

The property, which according to neighbours is being redeveloped, was cordoned off with yellow tape this morning and a couple of police officers were in attendance.

The blaze is believed to have happened in the roof and first floor of the home. Firefighters from Watford, Borehamwood, Garston, and Stevenage attended.

The crew from Stevenage brought am aerial ladder platform.

Watford Road was shut by police between Watling Street and Williams Way while crews put the blaze out. It was under control by 11pm.

There were no injuries.

People living in neighbouring roads and homes were told to keep their windows and doors closed to avoid inhaling any smoke.

Police opened the road again just after midnight.
