Newly-named gritter Freezing Frank will be taking to the road this Wednesday to meet the St Albans school student who named him.

At the Herts County Show in May, Charlie Wappett – a pupil at Fleetville Junior School in St Albans – entered the name Freezing Frank into the county council’s ‘name the gritter’ competition, and after a vote by highways staff this was chosen as the winning name.

Hertfordshire County Council have now named the gritter which grits the roads near Charlie’s home and goes past his school Freezing Frank and will be taking the gritter to meet Charlie at his school.

Local media are welcome to attend the event for photos opportunities and to speak to Charlie himself. The event will be at 10am on Wednesday 19 December at Fleetville Junior School, 228 Hatfield Road, St Albans, AL1 4LW. Please let us know if you are able to attend.

Also on Wednesday we’ll be launching a competition for the public to name another 25 of our 58 gritters. The competition for entries closes on Thursday 31 January 2019, with the winners being announced in February 2019
