A highway maintenance team is looking into the causes for a sinkhole appearing near a busy road.
Ringway sealed off Grove Mill Lane connecting Hempstead Road and Langleybury Lane on Monday morning after a hole unexpectedly opened up.
The road maintenance company said it was talking to utilities providers to discover how it could have happened.
Traffic diversions are in place preventing drivers from entering Grove Mill Lane near the golf course, and fencing has been set up around the hole for public safety.
A spokesperson for Ringway said: “We are currently investigating the cause of a hole that has appeared in Grove Mill Lane.
“We are liaising with various utilities companies that have underground pipes in the immediate vicinity of the hole to identify what has caused it.
“In the interests of public safety, the road will remain closed whilst investigation works continue.”
