A man dressed as a Star Wars stormtrooper is planning to complete a variety of long-distance running events to raise money for those affected by cancer.

Lee Brace, 46, from Maldon, was inspired to tackle as many physically challenges in honour of the tenth anniversary of losing his father to the disease.

The fundraiser will wear the iconic film costume during the Southend and Maldon and half-marathons later this year and the London Marathon this Sunday.

“I want to echo those courageous family members, friends, colleagues and all others who have either won or lost the battle with cancer,” said Mr Brace. “I intend to run and ride in full star wars storm trooper armour in an effort to raise as much as possible for my chosen charities, Cancer Research, Macmillan, Farleigh Hospice and the YES partnership.”

A space became available for the 46-year-old to take part in the London Marathon after YES Partnership offered him a place.

He plans to commemorate each mile during the 26-mile long run to someone who has lost or survived their battle with cancer.

The Maldon runner is also cycling 874 miles from John o' Groats and to Land's End on a Raleigh Chopper within 12 days in August.

So far, £3,551.33 out of £5,000 has been raised for the four charities and has documented his progress on social media.

“I have pledged to assist YES Partnership developing local youth employment in Epping Forest whilst raising funds for their voluntary work and motivation conferences,” stated Mr Brace.

“I am a great supporter of youth training, empowerment, passing on knowledge and putting faith in the next generation - one of these kids may enter a profession dedicated to medical research and find a cure for cancer one day.”
