Richard Newcombe (Vote for candidate who will stand up for UK, Letters, May 16) calls for another vote on our EU membership. On Thursday May 23 we have a vote, and although the European Parliament elections are not a second referendum, they are a great chance for us to prevent a referendum that we don’t want and don’t need.

A big vote for the Brexit party will show the pro-EU minority that most of us support democracy, which means that most of us support the cause of British independence and sovereignty.

We had our people’s vote in 2016, after Parliament asked us to make up its mind for it. MPs pledged to carry out our decision and they also pledged to leave on March 29, with or without a deal. MPs failed to do what they promised. We haven’t failed. Brexit hasn’t failed (it hasn’t even been tried yet). MPs failed.
