Harrow Council granted permission for a new block of flats above a pub, as it continues to face testing housing targets.

Its planning committee unanimously approved the plans for the scheme in South Hill Avenue, Harrow, in a site which currently houses The Star.

The project will provide ten new flats – nine two-bed and one one-bed – in a block up to four-storeys high. The pub will be unchanged.

There was just one objection to the proposals, from a resident in Brooke Avenue, which lies behind the site, citing concerns over a potential loss of light and privacy.

But planning officers assured the committee that properties in Brooke Avenue will “not be harmed”.

Harrow Council must provide more than 1,000 new homes as part of the emerging London Plan.
