A grass snake which was seen in a street has sadly died.
Grant Marcus, 22, was in Deacons Hill Road, near Elstree & Borehamwood station, last Friday morning when he found the reptile slithering along the pavement.
Concerned it may be someone's pet, Grant covered the snake under a blue box before calling the RSCPA.
An officer from the animal welfare charity arrived later that morning to collect the snake but discovered it was bleeding from its mouth.
It died a little while later.
The RSPCA believe it died from some sort of head injury that it had sustained previously.
