Four new toilets at St Albans Cathedral aim to flush away poverty one toilet at a time.
The new toilets have been twinned with toilets in Myanmar, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, and Zambia.
Members of Soroptimist International St Albans and District, the local branch of a global volunteer organisation which works to improve the lives of women and girls, hope the new cathedral toilets will raise awareness of those who do not have access to a basic toilet or clean water.
A £60 donation to the Toilet Twinning Charity to twin each of the toilets, helps pay for projects in communities in need.
On August 15, Soroptimist International presented Sub Dean of St Albans Cathedral Abi Thompson with four framed toilet twinning certificates.
She said: "What a great idea. We are so pleased you chose the new toilets at St Albans Cathedral to receive these certificates and we hope it will encourage more people to support the charity."
The certificates will be hung up in the toilets at the cathedral to encourage people to get involved in the initiative.
There are now 14 twinned toilets in St Albans. To become an official toilet twinned city, 30 are needed.
