Five keyless car thefts have taken place within a month period around a one-mile radius.

The vehicles - three of which being Land Rover Sports, one being a Range Rover Vogue and a Mercedes AMG GLC – were all taken during August 2019 in Harpenden.

A grey Mercedes AMG GLC was the first to be taken, as it occurred outside a property on Derwent Road on August 1 between 1:45am and 8am.

This was followed by the theft of an orange Land Rover Sport outside a property in Park Avenue North on August 13 between 1am and 1:10am.

A blue Land Rover Sport was stolen at Tuffnells Way between 9:45pm on August 24 and 10:25am on August 25.

Two other vehicles were also stolen within a smaller timeframe, as a silver Land Rover Sport was stolen at Wood End Road between 11:30pm on August 25 and 6:45am on August 26, and a grey Range Rover Vogue was taken from Crabtree Lane between 12:30am and 7:12am on August 26.

Hertfordshire Constabulary have clarified that enquiries are being carried to establish whether the incidents are linked and that it is unclear at this time of any similar reports in nearby Hertfordshire areas.

However, Hertfordshire Constabulary have also shared the following tips to protect keyless cars from being stolen: “It might sound obvious, but make sure you lock the doors and shut the windows and sunroof whenever you leave your vehicle unattended.

“Register your stereo, laptop, sat nav and any other property on the free online property database www.immobilise.com. It only takes a few minutes and could help police trace your property if it’s lost or stolen.

“If your vehicle has a keyless entry system, ensure you place the vehicle tablet key ideally in a metal box or a card defender bag.”
