More than 300 extra roads have been resurfaced over the last year, as part of Hertfordshire County Council’s £37m investment in local roads.

Since works began in October 2018, an extra 77 miles of Hertfordshire’s roads - or 307 streets - have been given a new surface.

That’s on top of the normal highways resurfacing programme.

The extra £37 million investment, which is being made over five years, is being spent on resurfacing the county’s unclassified roads – that’s the smaller roads where most people live and work.

This includes roads across Watford, Three Rivers, Hertsmere, St Albans, and Dacorum, as well as other boroughs in Hertfordshire.

An extra 16 roads have been resurfaced in Watford including Vicarage Road, Sheepcot Lane, and Tolpits Lane.

In Three Rivers, 20 extra roads have been spruced up, including Berry Lane, High Elms Lane, and Little Oxhey Lane.

More than 60 roads across St Albans district have benefitted from the extra investment. This includes streets in St Albans, Harpenden, London Colney, Bricket Wood, and Wheathampstead.

There are 28 roads in Hertsmere, including Furzehill Road in Borehamwood, Park Avenue in Bushey, and Mutton Lane in Potters Bar.

While roads in Bovingdon, Chipperfield, and Hemel Hempstead are amongst routes to have been given treatment in Dacorum.

Phil Bibby, cabinet member for highways, said: "We know that the condition of the roads matters to residents and it matters to us too. That’s why we’re investing this extra £37m over five years to improve the local roads people use every day.

"While we can’t do everything, this extra investment, along with our normal resurfacing programme and the regular maintenance we undertake, is making a real difference to roads across the county."
