It was revealed more than £1 million would be spent on two school expansions and investment in a doctor’s surgery as part of housing development of 206 homes in Harper lane near Shenley and Radlett.

The development includes a mixture of two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes.

As part of Bloor Homes’ project, the developer must pay a certain amount of money to help with infrastructure in the area – in this case £1.26m of Section 106 money is being invested.

More than £970,000 is being put into expanding a primary and secondary school - London Colney Primary School, and Beaumont Secondary School in St Albans.

£128,000 is going towards the cost of additional NHS facilities at the Red House Surgery in Radlett and/or the Gateways Surgery in Shenley.


The council elections in May also saw the Conservatives lose control of the St Albans District Council with the Liberal Democrats winning nine seats - – including the seat of

council leader Alec Campbell.

Before the election the Conservative held 30 seats and the Liberal Democrats 17.

The Tories had led the council for eight years but amid the Government’s handling of Brexit and the Lib Dems’ call for a People’s Vote, voters in the borough made their voices heard.

The Lib Dems are now the largest party in the chamber with 25 seats but it not enough for overall control.
