In July, firefighters managed to save The Plough Sleapshyde Pub in Sleapshyde Lane, three minutes before everything was lost, according to the owner.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the pub at 4.09am and tackled fires in two outbuildings next to the pub.

They managed to prevent the fire from spreading further to the main pub building which has a thatched roof.

The new kitchen and shed storing area were damaged by the fire but a fire door stopped the flames from spreading to the main part of the building – including the bar and restaurant.

There was a fire at the Plough Sleapshyde.

There was another serious fire at a fish and chip shop.

A blaze broke out on the first floor and the roof at The Camp Fish and Chip Shop in Sutton Road.

There was video footage that showed flames in the shop itself and smoke pouring from the roof.

The chip shop was used last year for Gucci’s autumn campaign which involved a short promotion video of pop star Harry Styles, in which he walked outside the shop wearing a dressing gown and carrying a live chicken.

Laura Davis from Harpenden and founder of All Dressed Up spoke about her non-profit project which gives free prom dresses to disadvantaged girls in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

She said: “I’ve seen the cost of going to prom and sometimes it can be £500 plus.

“You want all girls to be included and there are some dresses out there which have only been worn once and left in the wardrobe.”
