DETECTIVES investigating the death of Bradford-born footballer Jordan Sinnott have arrested a third man on suspicion of murder.

Nottinghamshire Police said today a 20-year-old man had been detained in connection with the death of Jordan Sinnott, following the arrests of two men aged 21 on Sunday.

The Matlock Town midfielder, the son of former Bradford City player Lee, died in hospital on Saturday after suffering a suspected fractured skull in an assault in the centre of Retford at about 2am.

The Nottinghamshire force said a fourth man, Connor Woodcock, of Beehive Street, Retford, had been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm in connection with a separate assault, understood to have taken place after Mr Sinnott was injured.

Woodcock, 27, was due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court today.

Two other men were injured in the later assaults, with a 27-year-old man sustaining a suspected broken nose and a 44-year old man receiving a suspected broken jaw.

In a statement giving details of the ongoing inquiry, Nottinghamshire Police said officers first attended the Dominie Cross pub in Grove Street, Retford, following a report of a group of up to eight men and women having been involved in a disturbance in the car park at about 11.25pm on Friday.

Detectives do not now believe that the first incident was connected to Jordan's death, the statement said.

Officers were called to help ambulance crews who were attempting to treat 25-year-old Jordan, after he was found unconscious following a subsequent incident at about 2am in the town's Market Place.

Detective Inspector Justine Wilson, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would like to thank the community for the response to our appeals yesterday, which has been really helpful.

"We still need to hear from anyone who has not yet come forward. Any piece of information they can give, however small it seems, could be vital.

"We are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show the assault of a man at a train station. I can confirm that this video is not connected to the death of Jordan Sinnott."

Matlock Town said on Sunday that their fixture against Grantham Town on Tuesday had been postponed due to the "tragic events", after they had previously cancelled Saturday's game against Mickleover Sports.

In a tribute to Mr Sinnott on Twitter, the club said: "You weren't just a footballer, you were our friend and brother.

"You gave us incredible memories and scored your first career hat-trick in your final game for the club. Rest easy Jordan, we love, miss and will never forget you."

Chesterfield Town are planning a series of events to pay tribute to Jordan.

Members of Jordan’s family are being invited to attend Chesterfield's next home match, against Wrexham on Saturday week, as guests of the club.

An image of Jordan will feature on the front cover of the programme and there are plans to hold a minute’s applause before kick-off.

With an image of Jordan on the Big Screen, fans will also be encouraged to join in with a minute’s applause after 25 minutes to mark Jordan’s age.

It has been proposed that a mini-tournament will be staged at Chesterfield's Proact stadium in honour of Jordan in pre-season, involving the Spireites, Matlock Town and Alfreton Town.

Funds raised on the day will be donated to a suitable cause.
