A music centre is temporarily closed after Storm Dennis damaged their musical equipment.

The roof the Meriden Community Centre was unable to keep up with Storm Dennis on Saturday (February 15) as water leaked into the teaching studio of the Music Gym at the top floor of the centre.

Water damage at the keyboard suite left the equipment “beyond repair”, while other instruments are still being tested to see if they can be used by students.

Other suites at the Music Gym includes the guitar, drum and vocals suite.

All lessons have been cancelled until further notice as Watford Borough Council investigate the damages of the roof and work on repairing the roof.

Alan Johnson, the director of the Music Gym, said: “The damage is devastating.

“We lost a lot of equipment, but my main concern is where we will teach our students.

“We have 50 students sitting exams in March. They have worked so hard and we need to find a new venue ready for lessons to resume after half term.”

The Music Gym are asking if anyone knows of a D1 building that is suitable to teach lessons, to get in contact so they can temporarily relocate.

They need at least four rooms for lessons that run from Monday to Saturday during school hours and up until 9pm each evening.

The temporary closure of the Music Gym has left students as young as five unable to continue practicing their musical skills.
