You’re never too old to fall in love is the heartwarming message of the Company of Ten’s next production, Ladies in Lavender.

The ladies of the title are Janet and Ursula living peacefully in 1930s Cornwall. After rescuing a handsome young Polish violinist washed ashore during a storm at sea, the sisters nurse him back to health. But his mysterious presence touches both their lives in unexpected ways.

Originally a short story by William J Locke, it was adapted into a hugely successful film by Charles Dance starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. Now the story has undergone a further transformation into this new play.

Tina Swain, who plays Ursula, said: “About three years ago I came across the end of the film Ladies in Lavender on TV. I had forgotten how much I’d previously enjoyed it, and thought it would make a great play with three really good parts for women. I looked online to find it had already been adapted, so bought a copy and gave it to the Company of Ten’s Play Selection team for consideration. It has such a heartfelt, bittersweet and affecting storyline which I am sure everyone can appreciate.”
