Two good things are emerging from the coronavirus emergency.

NHS staff are working day and night, regardless of risk, looking after their patients. Truly heroic, but surely they deserve more than admiration and respect. When this emergency is all over, and on the basis that they also serve, as a taxpayer I would welcome a bonus to every member of staff. I would also like the media to promote a healthaid collection to enable people to show their appreciation.

Secondly, the nation seems to be coming together. When it became known that as an aged couple we were self isolating, we were inundated with kind offers to shop and this is happening all over the UK.

All this, to misquote the great man, warms the cockles of the heart.
