A bird hide by Rickmansworth Aquadrome was vandalised and set alight in the evening.
Rickmansworth fire crews were called to Stocker’s Lake Nature Reserve by Rickmansworth Aquadrome on the Bank Holiday Monday (May 26) at 8.31pm, to reports of a fire at the reserve.
Once at the scene, the crew found a bird hide set alight in flames, and the team used a bucket and backpack sprayer to extinguish the fire.
The fire was put out at around 9.15pm.
Hertfordshire County Council believe the fire is deliberate but say this does not necessarily mean it was arson.
Due to the structure being far from the actual spot of birds, it is believed no birds were affected by the fire.
Temperatures yesterday reached around 25°C in Rickmansworth, meaning that many visitors came to the Aquadrome in hopes to take advantage of the sunny weather.
Police were patrolling public parks and hotspot areas during the Bank Holiday weekend, to ensure social distancing measures were kept and large crowds were avoided.
